On Saturday September 11, Matèria is pleased to open Manta ray - a group exhibition curated by Ornella Paglialonga - featuring works by Eduardo Fonseca E Silva & Francisca Valador, Helena Hladilova, Jacopo Pagin, Catherine Parsonage and Amedeo Polazzo.
The exhibition is born with the intention of highlighting the autotelic character of the works, selected on the basis of how they allow us to relate to them in a fluid and somewhat inexplicable way; disconnecting from the limiting notions often used to represent the identity of the work and its role in the world.
Manta ray takes its name from an artwork by Catherine Parsonage showcased in the exhibition, that guides the visitor towards the works, revealing their elusive nature through evocative and surreal dosages. Matèria’s space will thus be inhabited by a magical atmosphere that hints to an illusion, in which each single piece is combined to create a dreamlike, illegible and evasive imaginary, one far from catchy lyricisms.
The exhibition runs at the gallery until October 16, 2021.
